Ballymackey Women are Combined Counties Football League Cup Champions following a penalty shootout win against Willow Park after a epic game finished 3-3 after extra time. It was a game that could have gone either way in normal or extra time. Ballymackey took the lead courtesy of Hazel Cawley who latched on to a Aoibhín Delaney pass and finished 1 on 1 with the keeper. Ballymackey saw themselves 2-1 behind at the break and 3-1 behind 15 minutes into the second half. Christine O Keefe got Ballymackey back in it from the Penalty spot after Seonaid McGuigan was brought down, again put in behind by a Aoibhín Delaney through ball. Hazel Cawley got her second with 3 minutes remaining to take the game to extra time, put through on goal picked out again by Delaney. Both sides hit the post in additional time, but it took penalties to decide the match. Lisa Toohey, Christine O Keefe, Aoibhín Delaney and notably Karen Hogan who left the same pitch 2 weeks ago in an ambulance converted from the spot and Darra Burke on her 18th Birthday capped off a player of the match performance with 2 penalty saves to win the Cup. Hard luck to a super Willow Park side, it was genuinely a match neither team deserved to lose. Thanks to the CCFL officials and to Birr Town AFC for providing a super venue and for managing the occasion.
