Ballymackey Women are Combined Counties Football League Women’s League Champions. A very hotly contested League came down to the last 2 match days with head to heads involving the 3 Clubs still in contention. Ballymackey overcame Willow park in their last match of the season in what was effectively a winner takes all clash to decide the League. The League title could not be awarded to Ballymackey on the day as the result of a match involving 2 other teams was in question before the League Disciplinary Committee and a reversal of the result of this match could have seen Ballymackey been taken to a playoff. That result has been adjudicated to stand as it was and Ballymackey have been informed by the CCFL Committee that they are officially League Champions.
This is a huge achievement for Ballymackey to finish top of a League of quality teams. Five of their seven League opponents have had wins against Ballymackey over the last 2 years, so Ballymackey were made to work hard for every win and draw achieved this Season. Seven out of Seven home wins and five away wins, one away draw and just one loss on the road saw Ballymackey to the title. Ballymackey had failed to maintain a title challenge in their three previous CCFL campaigns, losses away from home proving their achilles heel. This Season there was more depth to the Ballymackey Squad as talented underage players added to the existing quality player pool. This gave Ballymackey the strength in depth to meet the huge commitment needed for their away fixtures that all involved long travel distances to Offaly, Laois, Westmeath and Roscommon.
We would like to congratulate the Ladies on their success and thank their opponents for a sporting, well contested League. Thanks also to the hard working Combined Counties Football League Committee for their help and accommodation over the course of the Season.
