A combination of unfortunate circumstances saw Ballymackey U15 Girls take to the Field with only 8 players for a 11 a side match v Lough Derg. Ballymackey conceded 2 early goals before getting to grips with playing numbers down and had some good chances themselves to score. They were unfortunate to find themselves 3 down a having matched their opponents for long periods . But no heads dropped as the girls realised they were playing exceptionally well. The second half saw the girls really take the game to the visitors committing lots of players to attack and the girls thundered back into the game with a goal from Abbie O Dwyer and a brace from Ciara Ryan to draw the Ballymackey girls level. A superhuman effort saw the girls exert huge pressure on the Lough Derg goal in search of a winner but the game finished in a draw. It was an incredible display playing with 3 less players than their opponents, with the girls displaying fantastic courage, fitness and skill. Their never say die attitude coupled with great ability to maintain possession under pressure and work the ball through the thirds of the pitch saw the girls pull off a very improbable result . The referee rightly awarded player of the match jointly to the whole team, you don't get a performance like that without all 8 players playing out of their skins. Team Emer Moroney, Maeve Steed, Tess O Donovan, Kelsey Hogan, Ciara Ryan, Abbie O Dwyer, Devlyn Spillane and Orla Kelly. We only hope the girls are as proud of their performance as their Families, Coaches and Club are.
