U12 Boys Premier v Killavilla.
Our U12 Boys faced off against Killavilla. We started very well and pressed high looking for the opening goal. We hit the post, the crossbar and their keeper several times and it looked like we'd score any moment. That was a false dawn for us however because one ball up to their number 9 and everything changed. This guy was amazing and the instant he got the ball in midfield he was gone straight for goal taking on anyone who crossed his path and then slotted the ball neatly to the Ballymackey net. Two minutes later he got the ball again and the result was a carbon copy of goal number one. While we taking measures on the line to stop this happening they got a free kick and up stepped another guy and put the ball in the top right corner of our goals leaving us three down in no time at all. We still went at them though and had numerous more chances but what could go wrong was going wrong. Ryan Moloney, Cormac Frend, liam and Patrick Hackett were doing huge work trying to bring us back. It was really against the run of play when Killavilla scored twice more, again their number 9 running riot on us. We did get one back before the half time through Ryan Moloney. We threw everything at them in the second half but all we got was two more goals against us. James Kennedy and Darragh Hartnett were working hard all day too getting on good ball and passing it through or winning frees. Max Swan will feel he could have had a hat trick today but for bad luck, he struck and inch wide each time. Jack Fitzpatrick, Cody Quirke and Michael Ryan gave all they had too and on another day all three would have scored. Culann Hassett despite conceding seven played very well today, he was left totally exposed for most goals giving him no chance. All in all Killavilla deserved their victory but the game was much closer than the score tells. They played a clever game in sitting back and absorbing our pressure before countering with their two almost unmarkable boys upfront.
We'll be looking for victory next time out.
