Shinrone shaded a highly entertaining contest as our girls u13b side went down to a 2-1 defeat in Ballinree this morning. Ballymackey started the brighter with some good passing in midfield from Ella Frend and Mioda O'Shea. Anna Lee tormented the Shinrone defence down the left only to be denied a final killer ball by some good Shinrone defending and goalkeeping. The opening goal came against the run of play as a slight mix up in the Ballymackey defence was cruelly punished. Shinrone went to the halftime break with that 1-0 lead.
Ballymackey again started the 2nd half the brightest with strikers Sadhb Connolly, Siùn Conway and birthday girl captain for the day Aisling Kennedy all having chances to get the equaliser. Pushing for that equaliser, Ballymackey were left open to the counter attack and Shinrone doubled their advantage midway through the 2nd half. This only served to encourage the Ballymackey team to push on and their perseverance and good play was rewarded when player of the match Anna Lee put a great ball in from the left for Sadhb Connolly to finish calmly. With 10 minutes still to play Ballymackey pressed on and inevitably left a few gaps at the back which meant having to defend a few corners after some great defending by Lisa Fitzgerald and Aileen Moroney and some brave saves by Ava O'Rourke between the sticks. Good overlapping full back play by Jenna Hackett and Hazel O'Donovan led to more chances but it was not to be. Full squad was: Ava O'Rourke, Aileen Moroney, Jenna Hackett, Lisa Fitzgerald, Siùn Conway, Ella Frend, Mioda O'Shea, Anna Lee, Aisling Kennedy (captain), Sadhb Connolly and Hazel O'Donovan
