A Home win!!
Our Ballymackey U12's kept up their good form again tonight with a very hard fought victory over a gutsy Moneygall side. We usually play these matches on grass but this one was on the astro turf. Monegall started fiercely and put us under tremendous pressure for a good period in the first half. Matthew Bergin once again was on top of his game and kept them out. Conall Hartnett, Callum Ryan and Donnacha Kelly were under pressure too but they stood up to it. The game was then end to end and there was no let up. We started asking questions of the opposition with Dara Wyles and James Ryan coming close a few times. Just as we were settling in though, Monegall caught us on the counter with a brilliant goal. We knew not to panic though because we were playing well. Colm O'Brien was taking lads on and getting through but Moneygall held back a good few lads and we couldn't break through. Daithi Kennedy and James Hanrahan were chipping in with their fair share of the effort, Evan Grace and Charlie Cummins were also getting more into the game. With about 5 minutes before the half time whistle we got a break, a Moneygall player handled the ball just outside the box and we'd a free kick. Dara Wyles stepped up to take it and scored what can only be described as a sensational goal. It was a bullet to the top corner of the net which the Moneygall keeper could only look at. It was game on.
The second half started hard and fast also but this time we were doing the pressing. Everyone was working hard on pushing Moneygall up the field while Conall and company were sorting it out at the back.
Moneygall pushed back too and this game was on the edge so whoever scored next would have a big advantage because goals were scarce. Time for the scorer of that amazing goal to step up again! Dara was played in beautifully and dispatched his second on the night.
This gave us the breathing room we needed and not too long after that Colm O'Brien who worked his socks off all night got in for our third goal to seal the deal.
It finished 3-1 to Ballymackey in what was a very entertaining and tight encounter.
Many thanks to Moneygall for a sporting game and to TP for reffing.
