Ballymackey Women had a good 2-0 win at home to Galway side Shiven Rovers. Ballymackey were in a strong position at half time with the score 0-0 and Ballymackey haven played into a very strong wind. The Ballymackey defence of Nicole Ryan, Eimer O'Brien, Zoe Gratton and Leah McLoughney were immense in the first half limiting the Shiven attack to a few half chances.
Mollie Ryan in goals behind them also played a vital role in limiting the pressure the visitors could apply with a super display of restart kicking into the wind.
Indeed Ballymackey were the greater attacking threat in the first half with Hazel Cawley and Chelsea White going close to scoring.
With the wind at their back Ballymackey dominated the territory in the Second half. The visitors defended well but Kate Cavanagh broke the deadlock from the penalty spot early in the second half and from there the result was never in doubt. 15's player Clodagh Daly was introduced to the midfield early in the second half for her Senior debut and she capped a impressive outing with her first senior goal a cracking half volley strike from 25 yards low into the left corner.
A great performance from the girls and their first win in the Combined Counties League is a great boost to take into the Christmas break. It was very much a team performance with all players playing their part in the win. We had stand out displays from Eimer O'Brien, Leah McLoughney, Hazel Cawley and the teams youngest members Clodagh Daly and Mollie Ryan but our player of the match was Captain Lisa Toohey with an all action display.
