Ballymackey Women got their Combined Counties League campaign back on track with a 1-0 win at home to Mullingar Athletic. Injuries and Illness saw 4 changes from last weeks side, but this season there is more depth in the Ballymackey squad and a strong Ballymackey side lined out with 4 subs also available. Ballymackey played the first half into a strong wind but they had the better of the chances and were good value for a half time lead which came courtesy of Christine Morrow, who volleyed a cracker to the roof of the net following a headed flick on from Rachel Sheehan. The second half was a tight affair with both teams having sight of goal. Mollie Ryan did very well on several occasions getting down on through balls just before a Mullingar attacker and Ballymackey failed to convert a couple decent opportunities. A great battling performance from the girls in difficult playing conditions with all 15 players used contributing to a good win against strong opposition. 15 year old Laura Kinsella was our player of the match from Left Back turning in a excellent display. It was a great reaction from the team to the setback of their first defeat of the season a week earlier and 7 wins in 8 games with 6 clean sheets is great start to a long season.
